Turbo-Twist 3X UV Sterilizer
An inline UV sterilizer that kills free-swimming parasites and single-cell algae as tank water passes through it, the one piece of gear that works on ich while it is still in the water rather than on a fish.

Our take
This sits inline with the filter, so tank water is drawn through a quartz sleeve past a UV bulb before it goes back into the tank. That kills free-floating parasites, including the stage of ich that swims looking for a fish to attach to, along with the single-cell algae behind green water. It supports treatment during an active outbreak and helps stop the next one taking hold, but it works on what is in the water column, not on parasites already embedded under a fish's skin, so it is not a substitute for medicating a tank that already has visible spots.
Good to know
- 9-watt bulb, rated for aquariums up to 125 gallons
- Inline design, plumbed with a powerhead or canister filter
- Freshwater or saltwater use
- Bulb needs replacing roughly every 6 to 12 months
Who it is for
- Tanks recovering from or prone to repeat ich outbreaks
- Anyone wanting clearer water without more water changes
Who should skip it
- Treating fish that already have visible spots on their own, medicate the tank as well
- Tanks with no separate pump or filter to push water through it
